Come Down

And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads, and saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. (Matthew 27:39-40)

Cruelly mocking Him the passing crowd goaded the Lord Jesus to come down from the cross. Their unbelieving hearts demanded a sign. Lovingly He chose to stay and die for their sin and ours. Remaining on the cross and finishing His work is to the believer further proof of His divinity. Today we thankfully worship Him for the heavenly love that kept Him there and for the heavenly power that brought Him up out of the grave.

To Him who suffered on the tree, at awful cost our souls to gain; Blessing, and praise and glory be: "Worthy the Lamb, for He was slain!"
