Speaks

Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it. But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him. (Habakkuk 2:19-20)

What a contrast between our living God and mute idols. People speak to their idols and in return get only silence while God speaks and all are exhorted to silently listen. What's more even in His silence God plainly speaks. Compared to a silent sheep before its shearers (Isa 53:7) the Lord Jesus proved that God had much to say. Though His actions He spoke volumes about His hatred of sin and love for sinners. As the Just suffered for the unjust He taught us simultaneously about God's justice and grace, mercy and wrath. Friend, contemplate God's message at the cross and trust Christ today.

Jesus bruised and put to shame, Tells me all Jehovah's name;
God is love, I surely know by the Savior's depths of woe.
